While on a trip to San Francisco in 1994, I captured this cat enjoying the serenity of the Filbert Steps. These steps are actually part of Filbert Street but the hill proved to be too difficult to pave. The Victorian cottages and gardens that hug Telegraph Hill are made accessible by these wooden stairs and this area truly reflects the beauty of San Francisco. This is another one of my favorite personal photos.

My current home is in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Ever since my first visit here in 1988, I found myself wanting to come back frequently and take in everything that has made San Francisco famous, with the possible exception of Fisherman's Wharf. Sometimes I still can't believe I actually live here because for all the times I talked about it, I don't think I ever really believed I would leave the East Coast. But here we are, going on five years and life is really good. I do miss New York every once in awhile, but all I have to do is drive through the Presidio at sunset, taking in the scent of eucalyptus, or walk down one of the City's hidden wooden-stepped lanes surrounded by flowers (the type made famous by Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City) and I'm happily reminded of why I moved here.

Also taken in 1994, this photo proves that the Golden Gate Bridge is not only beautiful, but awesome in scale.
